Overview
Lip fillers are injectable gels based on hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the skin. They are used to restore volume that has been lost with age, define the lip border, smooth fine lines around the mouth or balance the proportions of the upper and lower lip. At Alkubaisy Aesthetics Clinic, lip filler treatments are performed by a licensed doctor after a consultation.
The goal discussed at the consultation is a result in proportion with your features. The amount and placement of filler are decided by the doctor based on your lip anatomy, not in advance.
What we treat
- Volumelips that have thinned with age or were always thin
- Border and definitiona clearer outline of the lip edge
- Balanceproportions between the upper and lower lip, or asymmetry

Who is it suitable for?
Adults who want more volume, definition or balance in the lips and who are in good general health. Lip fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have an active cold sore or skin infection around the mouth, or if you have a known allergy to the product's ingredients.
The doctor confirms suitability at the consultation.
What happens at the clinic
- Consultationthe doctor examines your lips and face, listens to what you want, and explains which approach and product are appropriate for you.
- Preparationthe area is cleaned and a numbing cream is applied. Most lip fillers also contain a local anaesthetic.
- Treatmentthe filler is injected in small amounts and shaped by the doctor. Session length depends on the plan agreed.
- Aftercareyou leave the clinic the same day with written aftercare instructions.
Results and how long they last
Some change is visible immediately; the lips are usually swollen for the first days, so the final shape settles once swelling subsides. How long the result lasts depends on the product used, the amount injected, how expressive your mouth is and your individual response. Hyaluronic-acid fillers are gradually broken down by the body. Your doctor will give you a realistic expectation at the consultation.

Results vary from person to person.
Recovery
Swelling, tenderness and small bruises are common after lip filler and are usually most noticeable in the first days before settling. Lips may feel firm or slightly uneven while the swelling goes down. You will receive written aftercare instructions, which typically include avoiding strenuous exercise, heat, alcohol, pressure on the lips and lip make-up for the period your doctor specifies.
Risks and side effects
As with any injectable treatment there are risks. All risks, and how they are managed, are discussed with you at the consultation before any treatment.
Common
swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary asymmetry, small lumps that settle.
Uncommon
persistent lumps, filler moving beyond the lip border (migration), infection, cold-sore flare-up, allergic reaction.
Rare but serious
injection into a blood vessel, which can affect the skin and requires urgent treatment. Hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved if needed.
Products
The clinic uses hyaluronic-acid lip fillers registered for use in the UAE, including Juvederm, Teosyal, Neauvia and Y Bello. The doctor selects the product for your case and explains why at the consultation.

Do you do cherry lips, Russian lips or pouty lips?
Many patients ask for a particular style such as cherry, Russian or pouty lips. These are names of injection styles, not a guaranteed outcome: the final shape depends on the shape and size of your lips and your facial proportions, and the doctor decides at the consultation which design suits you. Results vary from person to person.
Does lip filler hurt?
A numbing cream is applied first and most lip fillers contain a local anaesthetic. Most patients describe pressure and mild discomfort rather than pain; the lips are a sensitive area, so some discomfort is normal.
Can the result look natural?
The aim discussed at your consultation is a result in proportion with your features. The doctor plans the amount and placement for your anatomy; what looks balanced differs from person to person.
What are “Russian lips” or other techniques?
These names describe injection techniques that place the filler differently to change the shape rather than only the volume. Whether a technique suits you depends on your lip anatomy; the doctor explains the options at the consultation.
How much filler will I need?
It depends on your starting point, your goal and the doctor's assessment. This is decided at the consultation, not in advance.
How long do lip fillers last?
It depends on the product, the amount, how much you use your mouth and your individual response. Your doctor will explain what to expect in your case.
Can lip filler move or migrate?
Filler can occasionally spread beyond the lip border. This is uncommon and is one of the risks discussed before treatment; if it happens, hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved.
Can lip filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic-acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed.
Are lip fillers safe?
Lip fillers are a medical procedure and carry risks, including the uncommon and rare complications listed above. No treatment is risk-free. Before treatment, your doctor assesses your suitability, explains the risks and benefits for your case, and obtains your consent.
